Yawgmoth, most people who will use 7 heroes have been doing h/h'ing and those people before heroes went 7 henchmen teams. Heroes have had minimal affect on PuGing. Want to know the real issue that prevents PuGing? There's three:
- Guild Wars is old. People have done a lot of the missions and have no need to pug with people except in elite areas and new content because that's all there is for them.
- Guild Wars is huge. There's too many outposts thus splitting the GW community by several dozen outposts. Embark Beach will help in this account.
- PuGs just suck. 'Nuff said.
7 Heroes will do little to affect puging. Those who began h/h'ing but like PuGing began h/h'ing because of the lack of pugs that was caused by the three points above - one or more of them.
In fact, any "harm" that 7 heroes will do to puging will be "fixed" by Embark Beach and then some by how I see it. There are only two issues that come with this fix though - not everyone will go there and it can potentially create an lfg mess. But hey, every solution has its own problems.

John Stumme said in an interview with the "Relics of Orr" podcast that the unlimited heroes thing wasn't done for PvP reasons. So with heroes taken out of PvP, that reason is a moot point. So when Stumme took over - since it was Linsey who was "no" on the topic - he revisited the topic.
Remember, it isn't Anet say yes, no, and maybe. It's the team leaders. So when leaders get changed, so too do decisions can change. So technically, anything that was said "no" or "yes" to in the past are subject to change.

Why do people seem to think Regina is against a full hero party or said it will never happen? All she said when it was first mentioned is not to expect 7 heros atm, didnt want to get our hopes up. John Stumme even stated something similar in a later article(giant combinable robot moas anyone?). Unless someone knows something I dont, Regina was just trying to clarify a very vague statement. Thats why they had the survey(excellent idea), talked it over, and made a decision. Put down the pitchforks, every type of player got at least some form of good news today. Take a deep breath and enjoy it.

People like you won't play with people like me.
You don't want to play with other people -- you want to play with other people WHO PLAY LIKE YOU DO. Which is what killed PuGs. Not heroes. Not PvE skills. What killed PuGs is folk who insist that I play the game their way, with the build they tell me to take.
I prefer to play with humans. I don't, because I'm tired of people demanding I ping my skills, and then nit-picking their personal opinions. I've cleared most of the HM content in the game with heroes whose builds would probably make you cringe, because they aren't the boring cookie-cutter crap you demand from people like me.
I like to play my ranger with an Enraged Lunge build and high Expertise (14). The build works great in HM... but I'm tired of being told to ping my build, and having some snide 15yo tell me to switch to crit barrage or some such. Yuck.

Don't worry, he mad because the rest of us are going to be having a huge amount of fun playing with hero builds. Seriously, I can not stress how excited I am for this news. Now I actually have the option to bring in heroes who normally NEVER get to see any action because they break my usual team synergy.
And I'm not talking about shitty PVX builds. I mean builds where Eles are nukers, Necros are death specialists, etc.

Wow, awesome. I wish more companies that did MMOs treated their fans like this. Thanks, Anet and the GW team.

Not really gonna make much of a diff for me. Would be nice to have a Monk hero using a good build, not alesia, and having 3 necros, sos rit, mesmer and 2 monks is gonna be fun, but I do that often enough when I play with my guildies. Its only gonna affect those who dont have guildies, or are to terribad to win with hench monks.
Embark Beach is going to be swamped with trades, unless they remove the Trade part from party search in there, and make anything with WTS/WTB/WTT/Selling/Buying or all derivations not be sent.
EDIT: Also its good to know what the 6th Birthday Updates are going to be!

Ppl will be playing less with each other if this comes out, ever since Nightfall I was against Heroes because ppl began inviting real players less and less. Dont think its a cool idea to add this.

The game gets old and boring over time, and the players eventually /uninstall. Must the remaining player base STILL require partying up with others in light of this? And please do not assume or generalize without any supporting evidence that there're players everywhere, or that there's always somebody doing the same mission/quest/insert task here as you because I've visited many different areas repeatedly, and most times they're empty!

Really cool news. 7 heros sounds great, but I'm not gonna hold my breath for any of it just yet (Except for maybe the Mad King jokes).

As I said before, puging didn't change that much just because of heroes. While heroes - mainly the manditoriness of having a hero in NF missions - did harm it, the biggest part was that there were more and more places. In Factions, before NF came out, I was hardly able to party with other people. Most of the time I had to bring henchmen - and a lot of the times, I didn't really mind it. Because one of the biggest turn of to PuGs is that you just can't tell when you're going to get someone who just sucks - and usually I find that PuGs are far worse than henchmen even. Only time this is not the case is when people run PvX builds.
Back in 06 and 07 - before NF that is - the only missions there were people for pugs were the hard missions. Everything else was "lol pug? just bring henchmen." Yes. Before Nightfall.
